Are Veneers Permanent?

Many dental patients wonder if porcelain veneers are permanent and if they will ever have to get them replaced. There are two different kinds of dental veneers, one being permanent.

Porcelain veneers are permanent, and are placed on your teeth after you receive a set of temporary veneers from your dentist. The temporary veneers are used to help you get used to the feel of the new veneers and also give your dentist a chance to see how your new smile will look as well as have your permanent veneers created.

Types of Dental Veneers

There are two types of dental veneers that the dentist will fit you with. The first being temporary veneers and the latter being your permanent veneers otherwise known as porcelain veneers. Each of these veneers are made out of different materials and are used for different purposes.

Temporary Veneers

Temporary veneers are made out of a composite resin and are used as a temporary solution like the name suggests. They are not as durable as porcelain veneers and don’t last as long. They are placed on your teeth for a weeks or more before being replaced with your permanent veneers.

Temporary veneers are made out of a composite resin which is not as durable of a material as porcelain which is what your permanent veneers are made out of.

Porcelain/Permanent Veneers

Permanent veneers are made from porcelain and will last for years as long as you keep your oral hygiene up. These veneers are placed after you have received your temporary veneers and are very similar in appearance to natural teeth.

Porcelain is a durable material that will last for years as long as you take care of them by brushing and flossing daily as well as attending regular dental checkups.

What is a Veneer Procedure Like?

The first step in getting your new veneers is to schedule a consultation with your dentist. During this consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth and determine if you are a candidate for veneers.

After it has been determined that you are a good candidate for veneers, your next appointment will be to get your temporary veneers placed. Your dentist will clean your teeth and then place the temporary veneers on your teeth.

You will then be able to see how your new smile looks as well as get used to the feel of the new veneers. After a few weeks, your permanent veneers will be made in a lab and you will return to the dentist to have them placed.

Your dentist will clean your teeth again and then bond the porcelain veneers to your teeth using a special adhesive. Once they are in place, you will have a brand new smile that looks natural and beautiful.

Porcelain veneers are a great way to improve your smile and give you the confidence you’ve always wanted. If you are considering veneers, be sure to schedule a consultation with your dentist to see if they are the right choice for you.

Do Veneers Need To Be Replaced?

Permanent veneers should not need to be replaced for many years if they ever are replaced. They are meant to last a lifetime as they do not stain very easily and should retain their color throughout your life. If you do not keep up with your oral hygiene, your veneers may need to be replaced sooner.
